First Blog Ever!!!

Welcome to the official blog of Paige Bourassa, licensed Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbologist, Holistic Nutritionist, Ayurvedic Specialist, Underwater chess player and Lover of life!

While I can promise you there will be no shortage of exclamation points (sorry mom!) this blog will be centered around life, love, health, balance, Chinese medicine and the pursuit of happiness.  As we rush through our busy days trying to find that perfect balance with our time, money, relationships, career and the billions of other things fighting for priority I find that health is always the quickest to be sacrificed.  Shoving that last stale pastry into your mouth while running out the door for a meeting may not seem unhealthy, but let me assure you, it is most definitely the gateway drug to a simple carb high then crash an hour later leading to more crappy food choices throughout your day. The chase for the next sugar high can look like this; bagels, cookies, the 3pm wake-me-up-so-I-can-pretend-I'm-working-hazelnut-latte, chips (yes, even pita chips you hippie), pasta for dinner, wine and then inevitably crack cocaine. You didn't think it wold lead there but sadly it does. Don't shoot the messenger.

Good, now that I've established my credibility as a medical professional, we can explore the Chinese Medicine side of things.  Before cell phones and i-things, the Chinese (and many other ancient civilizations) figured out that a life lived in harmony with nature was a life well lived.  They believe balancing with cold when you're hot, with dry when you're damp and grounding when you're heart palpitations and anxiety make you want to cry.  It is about nature, simplicity and balance.  The aim of Chinese medicine isn't to make the newest, fastest, flashiest, most streamline version of you work on as little fuel as possible. It's to make you feel balanced, centered, healthy and calm. In that state you can handle the deadlines, traffic jams, cranky children, a monsoon and a surprise visit from your in-laws like the Buddha. Just one thing at a time, taking life as it comes. Now the only good news about how much we've screwed ourselves up today (if you disagree with me watch An Inconvenient Truth or read The China Study) is that our chubby little skin suits allow us to bring ourselves BACK into balance. And that is more forgiving than a double layer of Spanx!! So give yourself a squeeze and get into changing your health, because it's way cooler than stalking your ex on Facebook.
